Caroline Drummond, MBE, 24th June 1963 — 23rd May 2022.
Tributes have poured in following the very sad news that LEAF’s Chief Executive for over 30 years, Caroline Drummond MBE passed away on Monday 23rd May after a very short illness. A force of nature, a visionary, and a champion for more sustainable farming, Caroline or ‘CD’ as she was known to so many, tirelessly championed the development and uptake of more sustainable, regenerative farming. She was also passionate about bridging the gap between farmers and the public.
Caroline led LEAF from the very beginning in 1991 when it was first formed, and for over 30 years has been the driving force behind the charity, which has grown from its humble beginnings to the globally recognised and respected organisation it is today.
One of her most shining legacies will be establishing and driving forwards farming’s annual open day, LEAF Open Farm Sunday (LOFS), which, for the five years pre-Covid, positively impacted on over half a million people each year. Caroline loved to visit LOFS events, to meet host farmers and their helpers, to hear their LOFS stories and to witness their energy and enthusiasm, and visitors’ joy and gratitude.
