Interest in sustainability issues and climate change is at an all-time high. How our food is produced and where it comes from has a direct impact on the environment. Visiting a farm on LEAF Open Farm Sunday is a great day out giving everyone the chance to find out what farmers are doing in your area, to protect and enhance the countryside.

What we eat not only matters to us and our families but is directly linked to the health of our planet. Find out what farmers do to keep soil, plants and livestock healthy. Learn about farmers’ role in producing nutritious food — from bread and breakfast cereals, kale and quinoa, to meat and milk. Get up close to pollinators like bees and butterflies that farmers nurture, to ensure we have plentiful crops including fruit and vegetables.
LEAF Open Farm Sunday Manager, Annabel Shackleton said: “With just over 70% of land in the UK used for farming, farmers have a critical role to play in addressing many of the pressing issues our planet is facing. Visiting a farm is a unique way to learn more about sustainable farming and the crops farmers grow. LEAF Open Farm Sunday is a fantastic opportunity to discover what farmers are doing to protect natural resources like soil and water, and how they conserve and enhance wildlife habitats and it is a great day out for the whole family!”
Each LEAF Open Farm Sunday event on the 7th June is different – from the type of farm, to the activities available. These can include guided farm walks and nature trails, displays of impressive high-tech machinery, sheep shearing and tractor and trailer rides. They all offer a chance to talk to farmers who are responsible for producing not just the food we eat but also many other crops that we all need for our everyday lives, including clothes, fuel and medicines.
